Saturday 29th October 2016 George Cohen Walk of Fame presentation Fulham and World Cup 66 Legend George Cohen MBE honoured at Craven Cottage On June 24th this year the National Football Museum in Manchester in association with NFM Artist in Residence, Paul Trevillion and You Are the Ref.com, launched the world’s first Football Walk of Fame on the walkway outside the museum – a permanent tribute to the legends of the beautiful game To celebrate the fifty-year anniversary of England’s World Cup win, the boys of ’66 were among the first inductees to be honored. Their portraits by world renowned iconic sports artist Paul Trevillion have been immortalized in bronze plaques; among them former Fulham F.C. player and national hero George Cohen. Artist Paul Trevillion considers it an honour and a privilege to be involved in the presentation of the George Cohen plaque to a player he saw playing many times for Fulham and England. Remembers Trevillion, “Cohen never played a bad game, he was Mr Consistency – never guilty of a careless pass. One of the reasons why he featured in every game when England won the 1966 World Cup.” National Football Museum Director Dr Kevin Moore, speaking of the England and Fulham great, said: ‘George is part of an elite group of players who have won football’s greatest prize, it's natural that he should be one of the first to be presented with a place on the nationwide Football Walk of Fame.’ |

Media Launch
Football Walk of Fame, media launch - Soccerex Convention 7th September 2015

At the 2015 Soccerex Convention in Manchester, Sir Bobby Charlton unveiled plans for the first FOOTBALL WALK OF FAME, a permanent ‘free to view’ tribute to the global icons of International football. Among the first to be immortalised will be the members of the 1966 England team including manager, Sir Alf Ramsey, as part of the National Football Museum’s 50th anniversary celebrations in Summer 2016.
The FOOTBALL WALK OF FAME has been made possible as the result of a collaboration between internationally renowned composer, founder of the UK Walk of Fame cultural attractions David Courtney, ‘Master of Movement’ legendary sports artist and innovator Paul Trevillion and the National Football Museum.
In addition to the 11 English heroes from the 66 team and England manager Sir Alf Ramsey, there will be another 13 world football icons inducted, alongside Brazilian international Pelé who will receive the first ‘Football Walk of Fame Legend Award’. Displayed as a trail leading to the entrance of the Museum, the FOOTBALL WALK OF FAME will feature images of inductees immortalised with stunning iconic Trevillion drawings embedded in brass plaques.
David Courtney says: “This has been a long time dream come true for me as a massive football fan and to be involved in creating a true legacy to the sport I love is beyond all expectations. I am particularly proud that the 'FOOTBALL WALK OF FAME’ will re-establish our place in history as the ‘birthplace’ of the greatest sport in the world. We are creating a global landmark for the game and one that we envisage will attract football fans from all corners of the globe.”
Paul Trevillion is quoted as saying: “The National Football Museum which embraces the history and the future of football is the perfect location for the FOOTBALL WALK OF FAME which allows the millions of football fans worldwide to walk in the footsteps of the greatest players to grace the game. I am deeply honoured that my football art will help to bring the FWF to life.”
Dr Kevin Moore, Director of the National Football Museum, adds; “We’re delighted to introduce the FOOTBALL WALK OF FAME in Manchester to the world. This is an excellent way for us to honour and celebrate some of the greatest International names in the game, and we’re looking forward to working with the unique talents of Paul Trevillion and David Courtney on this prestigious project. This is going to be a wonderful attraction for football fans, families and tourists visiting the City."
